Valla gets entirely TOO excited to greet guests when try first arrive. To help deal with this excitement, we send Valla to "settle" on her bed when guests arrive. We instruct guests to complete ignore her. After about five minutes, when the "new" guests are now "old" news, we release her but give her something to focus on other than the guests with a "go get your toy". Only after Valla is calm does she get attention from guests. With such a high energy job, calming down is quite the process, but with practice and consistency, the process gets much quicker until one day you find she is doing it all on her own!
