Titus LOVES to play with other dogs, but there are a couple things we do before he gets to play. First we go on a pack walk to burn off some excitement and establish me as the leader. On our walks the dogs follow me and see I’m in control. Then both dogs sit at the gate and wait to be invited in. This keeps the energy leveled. Nobody gets rewarded for being pushy. Once I take their leashes off, Sammi and Titus sniffed each other and played. This was a great interaction because Titus’s energy wasn’t through the roof which made Sammi happier to engage with him. Throughout playtime I call both dogs over to sit, and then they can go back to romping around. This reinforces that I’m always watching over them and they need to come when called. When it’s time to come inside and settle, they both sit at the door. Good dogs!
