Rosie likes to be everywhere I am in the house, staying right at my feet. While that’s ok when I want her to be with me, she should be able to stay in one spot by herself. In this exercise, she has to stay on a bed while I work around the house. This builds her confidence, allowing her to see that I can take care of myself and nothing happens to her when she isn’t right there. It also gives her something to focus on – if she hears a noise outside she wants to bark at, it’s easy to remind her she’s supposed to be on her bed.
