Harley is loving playtime, but there has to be structure to it so he’s paying attention to me. Even though it’s play, I’m still in charge and watching over. He and Forrest sit at the door before they play chase in the yard. I step in while they play and call them over to me throughout to keep the energy level even. They get used to dropping what they’re doing and coming to me, and it keeps their energy in check. I also claim any toys in the yard as my own, standing over the toy and backing the dog away. Then they each take turns playing without getting demanding. Harley is learning to take a backseat and follow my lead! He can have so much fun when he’s not trying to be in control!
