Baloo has issues with resource guarding, which means he claims & protects anything he “thinks” is his. For dogs it could be food, people, toys, etc. Baloo guards food, so this exercise is where I (the pack leader) claim the bone as mine and he must submit and back away. Eventually I will share it with him if he is polite. One of our dog training rules is – “Dogs Own Nothing!” So there is nothing for them to claim or guard. This rule keeps the peace, especially in a multiple dog family. It also keeps things safe when living with kids too!
