Lexi naturally likes to jump and she is very mouthy. So instead of suppressing these behaviors completely, which is very hard for both her and me, I work to control them. While Lexi is doing obedience drills, I use a tug toy as a reward for good work. She cannot jump up and grab it unless given a "get it" command and then must release it when given a "drop it" command. She gets to play like she likes and I get to be in charge while my clothes stay clean from muddy paws and my arms and hands stay free from teeth marks!
