Lanie hung out with me while I shopped at Lowes today. When people asked to pet her, I asked if they would squat down and hold their hand out, then allow Lanie to close the gap. If she didn’t want to get petted, that’s ok. We don’t make a big deal, but move forward. Keeping Lanie behind me also made it clear to her that I’m going to take care of her and she doesn’t need to make decisions. Being in front also makes people have to ask me first before petting her.
