Sitting and waiting for permission to enter serves so many purposes for Jack. First, it makes him have to pay attention to me. Jack’s focus is all over the place so this is something that keeps him engaged with me every time he comes in and out. Second, it forces Jack to calm down, take his energy level down, and come in the house slowly. Sometimes we are at the door for 5 minutes before he sits still and looks at me, but that’s what we do!! Each time the time gets shorter and Jack gets calmer! Repetition and patience pays off!
