Huck and I took a walk at Fletcher Park where we worked on long distance commands and recall. After a walk together where he stayed at my side, I let him explore on a long leash as we walked to simulate an off leash hike. I waited until he was distracted sniffing things then got his attention and called him over. I made sure to give lots of verbal praise when he came to me, but if he ignored I still had the leash and could pull him over. This keeps him in the habit of coming when called no matter what he’s doing – ignoring me is not an option! I also had him stop and sit or down, making sure he held the commands until released. Good work Huckleberry!
