Sitting and waiting for permission to enter serves many purposes for Cora. First, it makes her have to pay attention to me. Cora’s puppy brain is all over the place so this is something that keeps her engaged with me every time she comes in and out. Second, it forces her to calm down, take her energy level down, and come through a threshold more slowly. We practice this at every doorway, gate, or threshold we go through. No matter how fidgety she is, I wait until she is calm before inviting her through. Good girl Cora!
