Barley is working on holding a down in public to build her self control around distractions. When we practice at the park, she is learning to relax instead of impulsively jumping to follow a squirrel or bird. She’s also focusing on me and not thinking about playing with the other dogs around her. Rudy and Lana have been doing this for years, so they help show her how to act on a walk when it isn’t playtime. When she’s good from a few steps away, we add bigger distance, building up to a stay. At the end of our walk, everyone sits before being invited in to play!
