To show Chief that we are in control of the walk, we do a few simple things before, during, and after the walk. We have him sit to put the leash on, sit before exiting the door, he stays beside or slightly behind us during the walk and then finally he sits to come back in the house. Doing this shows him that we’ve got things covered. He then lets his guard down and isn’t worried about other dogs or strangers. He knows we’ll take care of him instead of him thinking he has to protect us!
