We are working on polite door manners with Barclay. When the doorbell rings he can give a bark or two and check out the door, but when I look to see its someone I want to let in, he gets a “Go Lay Down” command and he must stay in his bed as I let my guests in. This makes it clear that he does not have to protect the house as I decide who comes in and out! If its someone I don’t want to let in, he can stay posted at the door barking and he gets a “good boy”! That’s one of the benefits of a guard breed dog, but you must teach him clear rules of when you need him and when you don’t. He CANNOT decide on his own!
